      Approximately 90% of all women have cellulite to varying degrees. Some women, no matter what size or shape, have smooth skin all over. And others, even those size 0's and 2's have dimpled skin. It's not necessarily how much fat you have that determines if you have cellulite. It's how strong and supple your connective tissue is. Below, you will learn how to reduce cellulite with supplements.

How To Reduce Cellulite Faster

First though, let's talk about why we have cellulite. Children naturally have baby smooth skin and men also generally have smooth skin without any dimpled appearance. Girls start out with the same smooth skin but after puberty and when our hormones change, that's when we start to notice butt and thigh dimples. Men's connective tissue that holds skin to the muscle is in cross-hatch formation, providing a smoother and stronger layer of connective tissue. Men also typically have fewer fat stores and thicker skin. Women's connective tissue runs perpendicular from muscle to skin in vertical lines making "chambers". When the connective tissue weakens with age and fat stores increase, we then start to notice protruding fat under our skin.


Other factors that increase the appearance of cellulite include elevated catecholamine levels due to high stress levels, inflammation due to free radical damage and environment, genetics, metabolic changes, and poor microcirculation (and cell dehydration).

There are ways to reverse some of these factors, reduce cellulite, and improve our overall health. After research, these are the supplements that I have found to be the most effective:


Soy Lecithin (2000-4000 mg/day): Dissolves fat, repairs connective tissue. Found in soy products and eggs.

Glucosamine (1200 mg/day): Repairs and strengthens connective tissue. Other than unpeeled shrimp, there is no natural food source.

Collagen (1.5 Gm/day): Similar to Glucosamine. Repairs connective tissue, improves elasticity. I prefer the supplements that combine Collagen, Hyaluronic acid, and Chondroitin Sulfate.

Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's) (3Gm/day of Omega 3): Prevent cellular water loss, attracts water to dehydrated cells and connective tissues, reduces inflammation. Found in cold water fish and flax seeds/oil. Our "typical" American diet provides enough Omega 6. Omega 9 is found in olive oil.

Amino Acids: Needed for daily functions, repairs damaged tissues, produces collagen and elastin. Found in meat, poultry, dairy, and soy products. Vegetarians can add 50 Gm/day of soy isolate powder to meals.

Antioxidants: Free radical scavengers that prevent damage to the upper and lower layers of skin (reduces fat pockets from protruding), prevent tissue breakdown, prevent and reduce inflammatory processes. Found in bright, dark, colorful fruits and vegetables. Best sources are red grapes, red wine, green tea, pomegranates, strawberries, and raspberries.

Vitamin A: Essential for healthy skin and repairs body tissues. Found in sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, carrots, eggs, milk.

Vitamin C (250 mg/day): Repairs tissues, reduces inflammation, boots immune system. Found in citrus fruits and vegetables.

Vitamin D (2,000 i.u/day): Antioxidant, important for bone health, reduces inflammation. Found in mostly in dairy products. Women don’t get enough in their diets so a supplement is needed.

Vitamin E (400 i.u/day): Fat-soluble antioxidant. Found in vegetable oils, nuts, and dark leafy greens.

Coenzyme Q10 (200 mg/day in gel form): Important antioxidant and free radical scavenger.

Selenium (100 mcg/day): Antioxidant and helps body produce more glutathione (your body’s own free radical scavenger)

Many of these supplements can be found in combination formulas making a selection and taking them much easier. Be sure to take your supplements at night with a heavier meal as some of these require fat to be absorbed and utilized.
